Hackensack University Medical Center is the first hospital in the nation with the ability to immediately identify anthrax, ricin and other toxic agents that could be used by terrorists. The medical center’s BioVeris M1M Analyzer can detect biological agents in as little as 15 minutes. Most hospitals have to send specimens to outside labs, which can take 12 to 24 hours to compete tests – a time lag that could be deadly in a bioterrorist attack.
