THE PHILIPPINES and the United States will continue to work closely and share intelligence information to ensure that the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist group will not thrive in the country, the head of the US Pacific Command said Wednesday. “I think the Jemaah Islamiyah is the principal concern in the region and we are working very closely with the government of the Philippines to make sure that the Jemaah Islamiyah is not present in the Philippines,” Admiral Thomas Fargo said in an ambush interview in Malacañang where he made a farewell call to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and received the Legion of Honor award. When asked whether there were American spies in Mindanao and if they were there to prevent the JI from taking root in the southern most part of the Philippines, Fargo said, “You know our relationship is one of providing training and assistance to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
