A program to provide homeland security training for local residents is now being offered through the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management. “Jersey City was at the forefront of the relief efforts that took place on and after 9/11 at the World Trade Center site,” Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy said. “Our proximity to New York City makes it critical that we are ready for all types of emergencies. That’s why I am making this training available to the people of Jersey City.” The Community Emergency Response Team course gives residents hands-on and in-the-field training to help respond to a wide range of possible emergencies, in areas including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations, officials said.
