Special Tactics and Rescue unit shows off new maritime abilities at demo. TWO Patriot Assault Boats yesterday chased down a passenger ferry boat hijacked by pirates, catching up with it before it could reach international waters. The officers on the vessels travelling at 50 knots drew up alongside, quickly mounted the boat and captured the hijackers. The ‘incident’ off Marine Parade was held to demonstrate the latest capabilities of the police force’s 12-year-old Special Tactics and Rescue (Star) unit. It does not stop at thwarting hijackings at sea but extends to putting down mutinies and dealing with other maritime assaults and threats. Full Story
