FREED terror suspect Mamdouh Habib has applied to win back his Australian passport, seized on security grounds by the federal Government before his release from Guantanamo Bay. The seizure was demanded by the US as a key condition of Mr Habib’s return to Sydney, with his former captors insisting he not be allowed to turn up anywhere in the world connected to the war on terror. However, ASIO already held independent concerns about Mr Habib and was prepared to declare him a security risk because of his alleged links to al-Qa’ida. The former cleaner, who yesterday enjoyed his sixth day of freedom, is one of only 20 Australians to have had their passport seized because of alleged links to Islamic extremists. Full Story
