Talks open on shape of U.S. forces in S. Korea

South Korea and the United States opened new talks Thursday intended to reshape their half-century military alliance, an effort that could eventually have far-reaching consequences for the U.S. military presence in Asia and South Korea’s place within Washington’s security strategy in the Pacific region.
