Authorities are seeking 23 suspected militants of the al-Qaida-linked Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) who are believed to be stranded in the southern Philippines because they do not have enough money to return to Indonesia, the top police intelligence officer said yesterday. The suspects are believed to have escaped military air raids last week on the hideouts of Muslim militants in southern Maguindanao province, said Chief Superintendent Robert Delfin, the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group director. He said undercover officers from the military and the police intelligence unit are tracking down the militants, who are spread out in the central region of the main southern island of Mindanao.
