The Philippines and the United States vowed yesterday to strengthen their “great” alliance against terrorism and other “new enemies” including poverty and corruption. “Just as we stood together here 60 years ago, today we continue to stand together,” US Ambassador Francis Ricciardone told diplomatic and military officials of the Philippines, the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Russia and the United Kingdom at the 60th anniversary of the Pangatian raid and rescue mission by US Army Rangers, Filipino guerrillas and soldiers from other allied countries during World War II. While it is significant, he said, to remember the heroic deeds of soldiers during that time, it is also important to forge strengthened partnerships against the new global threats of terrorism, poverty, injustice, corruption and natural disasters.
