Oman has rounded up a group of Islamists this month on suspicion of promoting religious extremism in the pro-Western Gulf state, diplomats and activists said on Thursday. Human rights activist Abdullah Alryami said the detainees included university professors, Muslim preachers and government employees. “As far as we know, less than 30 people in total were arrested,” he told Reuters. “They are Islamists but unlike in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, they are not violent extremists.” Full Story
