The banned insurgent outfit ULFA is planning major strikes on Republic Day eve which has forced the Assam administration to sound red alert throughout the State, according to intelligence sources. They said a six-member group of ULFA’s “28th battalion” had entered the State through Myanmar to engage in subversive activities throughout the State, particularly in Upper Assam. In the past week, the ULFA had set off two bomb blasts including an attack on a electricity transmission tower last night in Jorhat. The sources claimed the six-member gang entered the State through Majuli and was planning to strike in Jorhat constituency. As a result of Wednesday’s blast, Jorhat district was plunged into darkness and there was no power or water for the citizens. Full Story
