India rebels abandon peace talks

Left-wing rebels in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh have announced that they are breaking off peace talks with the state government. A statement said the rebels were ending negotiations in protest against police killings of their members. The rebels accuse the government of failing to honour a cease-fire which took effect last summer. The move comes after a week of violence left 15 people dead.
