The United States sided Saturday with Colombia, its strongest ally in Latin America, over a growing rift between Venezuela and Colombia over Bogota’s hiring of bounty hunters to capture a Marxist guerrilla in the Venezuelan capital.Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez on Friday froze his nation’s diplomatic and commercial relations with Colombia until his Colombian counterpart, Alvaro Uribe, apologizes for allegedly sending police to Venezuela and bribing local Venezuelan authorities to help abduct Rodrigo Granda, a member of the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.
