It was another violent day in Iraq today as insurgents gunned down policemen, shelled polling places and set off car bombs in an attempt to sow chaos across the country before the elections. In Baquba, north of Baghdad, Iraqi security officials said seven Iraqi soldiers were killed when a band of insurgents surrounded their post and blasted them with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. In Bayji, near the Saddam Hussein stronghold of Tikrit, American officials said a suicide bomber rammed into a police checkpoint, killing seven police officers and injuring two dozen more.Full Story
