A contingent of Orangeburg emergency personnel has responded to Aiken County and more are on standby after two trains collided Thursday, derailing cars and spilling a hazardous chemical gas. Six Orangeburg County sheriff’s deputies are in Graniteville, where at least eight people are said to have died and 200 have been treated for injuries after a 42-car Norfolk Southern freight train with two locomotives and 42 rail cars struck a locomotive with two rail cars. “We have a team of certified officers that have been sent to Aiken in regards to the tragic incident there,” Sheriff Larry Williams said. “Sheriff (Michael) Hunt is a personal friend, and he requested this of us.
