Two people were killed and another four were injured in a new wave of violence in the Muslim-dominated southern Thailand, a local newspaper said on Monday. In Yala’s Krong Pinang district, a district official named Somsak Pakchart was shot dead Sunday afternoon while driving. Also in the province, four soldiers dispatched to inspect a fire at a telephone booth were injured in a bomb explosion on Sunday. The soldiers were checking a burnt-out telephone box alongside the road when the bomb went off. Police believe the telephone booth was set alight by militants in order to lure soldiers into the site.
