Colombia kidnappings fell 36 percent last year as President Alvaro Uribe improved security against insurgents, paramilitaries and criminal gangs. Kidnappings fell to 1,441 in 2004 from 2,200 in 2003, according to figures released by Defense Minister Jorge Alberto Uribe at a press conference in Bogota.
