The Accra Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) stipulates that upon the completion of the disarmament component of the DDRR programme begun in November 2003, all armed factions in the Liberian conflict would be deemed dissolved. In keeping with that provision, on October 31 last year, UNMIL held an elaborate state ceremony during which Messrs Conneh and Ja’neh amongst other LURD executives affirmed the disbandment of LURD and Mr. Yaya and others affirmed the formal disbandment of MODEL, while former president Moses Blah and others affirmed the formal disbandment of the militia forces of the former GOL.
