The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are complaining that the tsunami disaster relief being organized by the Sri Lankan government is not reaching the Tamil-speaking North and East of the island, where an estimated 8,000 people have perished. In an appeal to Sri Lankan Tamils living abroad for donations, the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) run by the LTTE said: “Assistance channeled through the government of Sri Lanka has failed to reach the displaced in the North East. It is only through the immediate, generous and unstinted support of the Tamil diaspora that we will be able to surmount the humanitarian crisis that has arisen.” Full Story
