A month after a deadly explosion shook downtown Walnut Creek, about 200 emergency workers tested their communication and cooperation abilities Tuesday morning in a large-scale drill that simulated a bomb attack. The drill tested radio communications, field cooperation, command structure in a large incident, decontamination abilities and the Walnut Creek bomb squad’s robot, Andrus. Several participants mentioned the explosion in Walnut Creek as proof that training pays off. “We feel very strongly that there should be more of this type of training,” said Richard Brown, a volunteer search and rescue expert for the Sheriff’s Office.
