Judicial proceedings will begin next week against some of the most senior leaders in the government of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, Iraq’s interim prime minister said Tuesday. The announcement by Ayad Allawi at a meeting of the interim Iraqi National Council immediately drew charges from his detractors that he was attempting to capitalize politically on the proceedings ahead of the country’s elections, scheduled for Jan. 30.Full Story
