France’s health minister today called for the creation of an international task force to counter bioterrorism as top health officials from the United States and other countries gathered in Paris to assess the threat. Our responsibility is to co-ordinate ourselves to face new global threats,” said Health Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy. Douste-Blazy suggested the task force could be based in France or Canada and police the globe for terrorists plotting biological attacks. The health minister was to meet later today with Tommy Thompson, the US health and human services secretary, and health ministers from the other G-7 leading industrial nations to discuss how to respond to a biological attack.
