The Saudi wing of al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility for an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah that killed five non-American staff members and left four militants dead. On an Arab-language website, a group identifying itself as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said the attack was part of its “war on the crusaders and the Jews” that was aimed at “getting them out of the Arabian peninsula.” The group called Monday’s attack “the blessed Fallujah battle,” in an apparent reference to the former insurgent stronghold in Iraq that has been taken over by U.S. troops.
