Colombian official accused of receiving money from militias
The governor of the eastern Colombian province of Casanare last year accepted a bag containing $200,000 from a rightist militia faction, according to a video broadcast Monday by the local news media. The tape shows Gov. Miguel Angel Perez taking the cash from the paramilitaries, according to Jose Dario Orjuela Martinez, a member of the ACC militia bloc arrested in Bogota on Nov. 12. Orjuela Martinez testified in court that the ACC’s leader, a man known by the nom de guerre “Martin Llanos,” ordered the money be given to Perez a few days before the politician was elected governor of Casanare in October 2003.
