Israel has begun redeploying its forces in the northern Gaza Strip as a gesture to Palestinians at the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Zeev Boim said troops would pull back from parts of the sprawling Jabaliya refugee camp, but would remain in Gaza. But in a day of violence, four Palestinians were killed near the camp in Israeli strikes, witnesses said. More than 100 Palestinians have died since the army went in 15 days ago.
