Colombian Rebel Sentenced to 26 Years

A Colombian rebel was sentenced to 26 years in prison after pleading guilty to tossing hand grenades into crowded bars in attacks last year that U.S. authorities say aimed to kill Americans, a court official said Wednesday. Arturo Montano, 26, was convicted of terrorism by Bogota’s 5th Penal Court for the Nov. 15, 2003, attacks on two pubs in Bogota’s “Zona Rosa,” or Pink Zone, nightclub area, said the court official, who asked not to be identified. A U.S. federal indictment in August charged Montano for the attempted murder of U.S. nationals, conspiracy and use of a weapon of mass destruction in the attacks. Full Story
