Mexico and Guatemala strengthen border against terrorism

Mexico and Guatemala signed an agreement Monday to ensure a rapid response to terrorist threats along their 900-kilometer (559-mile) border, authorities here said. The agreement was signed by the respective interior ministers of Mexico and Guatemala, Santiago Creel and Carlos Vielmann Montes, during a meeting in the Mexican capital, a joint communique indicated. Guatemalan Defense Minister Cesar Augusto Mendez was also present at the meeting. Creel and Vielmann reaffirmed their governments’ commitment to ensuring that their nations “will not be used as a corridor or platform by individuals trying to launch terrorist attacks against third countries.” Full Story
