Gov. Joaquin Hendricks Díaz asked President Vicente Fox Sunday for Federal Preventive Police (PFP) intervention in Cancun to improve safety and security in the northern portion of the state. Hendricks Díaz said the request was based on “a climate of insecurity that has been generated in the municipalities of Benito Juárez where Cancun is located Solidaridad and Cozumel, and all are areas with large numbers of tourists.” He said that “given recent crimes and violence, and the anxiety of citizens and investors, it is necessary to establish sounder methods of security.” Full Story
