ZIMBABWEAN police yesterday denied a claim by human rights watchdog Amnesty International that at least 10 people were killed when police used tear gas to evict squatters from a formerly white-owned farm. Police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena said there was no record of such deaths. Amnesty alleged at the weekend that 10 people died during an eviction of squatters from Porta farm this month. “We are surprised about this allegation,” Bvudzijena said. “We have no record of such deaths, and we know it’s not true.” However, Amnesty insisted people died in the tear gas attack by police.
