The Dominican government has turned over to judicial authorities seven National Police officers accused of using stolen vehicles. On Monday, Dominican Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda turned over incriminating evidence to prosecutor Jose Hernandez at a press conference attended by National Police chief Manuel de Jesus Perez. Almeyda refused to release the names of the officers “in respect for the law” as established in the criminal procedure code, which became effective Monday. The decision to turn over the case to the courts was made, Almeyda said, in the wake of the conclusions of an investigating commission made up of several judicial officials. Full Story
