Mexican authorities have arrested a man in connection with the beating death of a Mexican newspaper columnist in the border city of Matamoros, officials said Saturday. Raul Castelan Cruz was arrested Friday at his home in Matamoros, across the U.S. border from Brownsville, Texas, in connection with the August killing of syndicated columnist Francisco Arratia Saldierna, said Ruben Dario, a spokesman for the Taumalipas state attorney general’s office. The 55-year-old Arratia wrote the “Portavoz” — or “Spokesman” — column, which appeared in several papers throughout the northeastern state of Tamaulipas.
