The United States and the European Union sought Thursday to coordinate action against a growing problem of terrorist sympathizers using charities and cash couriers as covers to fund violence. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State E. Anthony Wayne said terrorists had been forced to use such methods by a successful international clampdown on funding through conventional banking which has seen the freezing of around $142 million in assets from suspected al-Qaida-linked organizations and individuals. Wayne led a delegation that included officials from the U.S. state, justice and treasury departments in two days of talks with their EU counterparts on the fight against terrorist funding. Full Story
