Terror mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, using an alias, received a tourist visa to visit Australia a month before the September 11 attacks in the United States that he helped plan, the government said. The visa was never used, but Prime Minister John Howard said he was confident immigration procedures were tighter now, but Mohammed’s identity had slipped through the system because he had 24 aliases and at least three visas.
