A hunger strike launched by Palestinian prisoners nearly three weeks ago to protest their conditions in Israeli jails ended when the last diehard inmates began eating again. Palestinian prisoner affairs minister Hisham Abdelrazaq said all the inmates, with the exception West Bank Fatah leader Marwan Barghuti, had stopped fasting, while a spokesman for the prison service said all detainees were now taking their meals. The vast majority of prisoners had already halted the protest, which was launched on August 15, before 600 inmates at the southern Beersheva prison also decided to suspend their fast on Thursday afternoon.
