Rebels killed a mayor and a former town council member after abducting them at a roadblock in eastern Colombia as they headed to a meeting on how to confront violence in the area, authorities said Saturday. Luis Zorro, mayor of Chamenza, a town 95 miles northeast of Bogota, the capital, and Siervo Plazas, a former councilman, were killed Friday by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, or FARC, after the rebels pulled the two from their car, state officials said.
