Shaukat Aziz, Pakistan’s prime minister-designate, cruised to an easy victory in two by-elections on Wednesday, defeating his opponents by huge margins, according to unofficial results announced by state and private media outlets. The official results will be announced this week. Victory in the two by-elections virtually ensures that Mr. Aziz, who is finance minister, will lead the government. He was picked by Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, after Zafarullah Khan Jamali abruptly resigned as the prime minister in June. But before ascending to the prime minister’s post, Mr. Aziz had to win a seat in the lower house of Parliament. Full Story
