More details emerged this week on the activities of al-Qa’ida in West Africa, especially in Liberia, where terrorists allegedly have been closely working with the government in the diamond trade. The new information on al-Qa’ida is part of a report given to foreign media by the United Nations-backed war crimes court in Sierra Leone. It is being described as a watered down version of what was given to the U.S. commission investigating the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. It details how half a dozen senior al-Qa’ida operatives worked closely with top officials in Liberia onwards from 1999 during the rule of former Liberian President Charles Taylor.
