Brazilian authorities found a national legislator dead from a gunshot wound to the head and a revolver beside his body, congressional authorities said Tuesday. Lawmaker Afonso Gil Castelo Branco, who had earlier been the target of threats and attempts on his life, was found dead Monday night at his home in the city of Teresina. Gil, who represented the northeastern state of Piaui, was among the front-runners in the race for mayor of Teresina, the regional capital, in the Oct. 3 elections. Full Story
