Pakistan Arrests Militant With Ties to Taliban

Pakistani authorities said Sunday that they had in custody a senior militant leader who had run a major training camp under the Taliban in Afghanistan. Qari Saifullah Akhtar, a longtime leader of Harakat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami, or Movement of Holy Islamic War, a multinational militant group, was arrested in Dubai and was transferred to Pakistani custody in the past few days, said the Pakistani information minister, Sheik Rashid Ahmed. He said the arrest was not connected to the arrests of Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani or Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, recently arrested militants with ties to Al Qaeda, although one intelligence official said it was possible that Mr. Khan had been in contact with Mr. Akhtar.
