A suicide car bomb exploded outside the house of a local official north of Baghdad on Monday, killing seven people and wounding 17, police sources said. They said the deputy governor for Diala province, Akil Hamed, was among the wounded when the bomber detonated explosives in his red car at the entrance to the official’s house in the village of Balad Ruz. Hamed and his bodyguards were leaving the house when the bomber struck. Hamed was rushed to a U.S. military hospital, and the other casualties, who included police, bodyguards, and members of Hamed’s family, were taken to a local hospital.
