A pizzeria owner and a mosque leader were arrested here Thursday on charges that they laundered money for what they thought was a terrorist plot to assassinate Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States with a shoulder-fired missile, U.S. officials said. The plot actually was a ruse, created by a government informant and federal agents as part of a sting operation. The only missile involved was a disarmed, government-supplied prop that the informant showed the suspects while posing as an arms importer who supplied weapons to terrorists, court records say. And the defendants – Yassin Muhiddin Aref, 34, the religious leader of Masjid As-Salam mosque, and Mohammed Mosharref Hossain, 49, a mosque member who owns the Little Italy Pizzeria – showed no interest in being involved in an attack.Full Story
