Chechnya Clash Kills Three Russian Police

Three pro-Moscow police were killed and two injured as they tried to subdue a group of rebels in a clash in a Chechen town, regional police said Thursday. Russian forces blockaded Argun, east of the Chechen capital Grozny, Wednesday, and opened fire on a house in the center of town. Witnesses said they used heavy machine guns and almost destroyed the house after the cornered rebels returned fire. “The five rebels attempted to leave the house and were killed. Three police were killed and two injured in the battle,” a spokesman for the local interior ministry said by telephone from Grozny. Full Story
