Suspect surrenders to U.S. police

Rogelio Montemayor, former head of the state-run oil giant Pemex, surrendered to U.S. authorities here Monday and is awaiting possible extradition to Mexico where he faces charges of embezzlement and abuse of authority. Judge Lynn Hughes ruled Friday that probable cause existed to believe Montemayor siphoned off funds by means of agreements between the company and its unions. Montemayor appeared before a Houston court in 2002, having fled Mexico, after Judge Marsha Crowne notified him of an order for his arrest pending extradition. Full Story
