Eight British troops detained by Iran last month were forced to stand blindfolded in a ditch as armed Iranian troops stood over them in an apparent mock execution. The British troops were convinced at the time that the ditch was a grave and they were about to be shot dead, the Sun newspaper said, citing the testimony of some of the captured men. The six Royal Marines and two sailors were seized on June 21 as they travelled by boat along the Shatt al-Arab waterway, the centre of which marks the border between Iran and British-occupied southern Iraq.
