India’s envoy to Iraq rushed back to Baghdad as a rattled New Delhi vowed to do “whatever possible” to secure the release of three Indian truck drivers taken hostage by Iraqi insurgents. “We will go to any extent to resolve the issue,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Edaepakath Ahmed, as Foreign Minister Natwar Singh went on air on Arab television channels to plead with the kidnappers to free the truckers. Ahmed said India’s embassy in Baghdad and ambassador in Kuwait were trying to contact the Kuwait-headquartered transport firm Universal Services which the kidnappers say must withdraw from Iraq to spare the lives of the captives.Full Story
