Palestinian gunmen seized four French nationals — two men and two women — in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip and locked them in a building for several hours before releasing them unharmed. The kidnappers were understood to be former Palestinian security officials expressing grievances after being fired from their jobs. The French foreign ministry confirmed the release early Saturday after one of the kidnapped men had told AFP by telephone in Jerusalem he and his colleague had been freed, some time after the women were allowed to go. Meanwhile, two senior Palestinian security officials handed in their resignations after three kidnappings within a few hours, saying the situation was intolerable, a Palestinian official said.
