Tests definitive: No anthrax found. The Meraux post office is scheduled to reopen today now that the state health department has given the all-clear after Monday’s anthrax hoax. On Monday, a customer found a plastic bag filled with white powder accompanied by threatening words in the building’s lobby. “State epidemiologists have come to the conclusion that it was not anthrax or any other bio-terror agent,” said Kristen Meyer, a spokesperson for the state Department of Health and Hospitals. Meyer said analysis has not concluded what the substance was, as testing officials were concerned only with whether it was a danger to the public. Daisy Comeaux, a customer relations representative for the post office, said Tuesday that the nearly 4,000 Meraux postal customers will receive all backlogged mail today. Full Story
