One of the five members of Venezuela’s CNE elections board said Monday that the campaign for the Aug. 15 presidential recall referendum “has gotten out of hand” and will henceforth be “monitored.” “If the CNE doesn’t put a stop to this in a forceful way, the situation could really spin out of control,” Jorge Rodriguez told Globovision TV, adding that the so-called “Media Observatory” will be put in charge of monitoring campaign ads beginning Tuesday. Journalism students and professors will be in charge of analyzing campaign advertising with help from Norwegian advisers.
