The projected winner of round one of Indonesia’s historic presidential election could lose to incumbent Megawati Sukarnoputri in a run-off if he becomes complacent, a leading pollster said on Wednesday. Retired general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono leads the count after the nation’s first direct presidential race with 34 percent of the vote, official results show. Megawati is second with 26 percent and former armed forces chief Wiranto third with 22. Most polls before Monday’s election had shown Yudhoyono winning 40-45 percent of the vote. “SBY has lost his momentum, so if he does not change his tactics he will lose,” said Enceng Shobirin, deputy head of the Jakarta-based Institute for Social and Economic Research, using Yudhoyono’s nickname.Full Story
