Colombian President Alvaro Uribe acknowledged Tuesday that the government made a mistake extraditing to the United States a murder suspect returned to Colombia last week for lack of evidence. “Yes, a mistake was made. The government cannot defend that error. Humility does not come easy in the public arena, but when you make a mistake, you have to admit it,” Uribe told reporters. Citing a lack of evidence, U.S. authorities last week returned to Colombia an alleged guerrilla extradited to the United States in 2003 on charges he took part in the killing of three U.S. citizens in the Andean nation.
