Elections due for September in Afghanistan face further delays because of differences over the timing of the poll, the government says. A foreign ministry spokesman in Kabul insisted the landmark vote would be held as promised. But he acknowledged that Friday’s legal deadline of 90 days notice for a September date was unlikely to be met.
